The Football Association of Zambia(FAZ) have announced a USD4.5 million sponsorship deal with telecommunications giant MTN.

FAZ President Andrew Kamanga confirmed the details of the partnership stating that MTN is committing to back Zambian’s football to the tune of $4.5 million over three years.

According to him, the league winners now stand to pocket 500,000 Zambian Kwacha – the equivalent of over $52,000.

Whereas all participants in the MTN Super League are guaranteed a participating fee of K200, 000 compared to K7, 000 on the league previously.

“The Association is particularly excited with MTN’s decision to increase its sponsorship package to US1.5 million per year with US$300, 000 being in kind,” he said.

He added that the new contract increases remuneration packages for all 20 Super League teams with the league champions guaranteed K500, 000 from K250, 000 which represents a 100% increase.

The Zambian national side are also set to receive $750,000 in sponsorship, according to the Lusaka Times.

MTN Zambia’s Chief Executive Officer Charles Molapisi also expressed his delight at the ongoing partnership between the telecoms heavyweights and Zambian football.

“Today, we are proud to be associated with the success scored by FAZ over the period of our strategic partnerships,” he said.
