Vice President of Ghana, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has announced that, by the first half of 2020 Ghanaians will be eligible to make payments on PayPal.

This follows a discussion between Ghana and the online payment company.

Based on the discussion, the company has agreed to enter Ghana’s financial services industry by mid 2019.

Dr. Bawumia, therefore entreated Ghanaians to equip themselves to tap into the benefit associated with the development.

The announcement was made on Thursday, May 10 at the launch of the mobile money interoperability system in Accra.

Ghana’s entry into the Paypal system forms part of Government’s efforts to build a new and modern economy.

However according to the Vice President, it is now up to government, the Bank of Ghana, GHIPSS, Banks, Fintechs, Telcos and Merchants to make it happen.

He therefore urged GHIPSS to put together a working group of stakeholders to work towards the implementation the roadmap.
