A directive has been issued by the government of Ghana, banning public officials from using their private emails to perform official duties.

As a result of this new development, Cabinet has approved the migration of all public servants onto the .gov.gh domain which is the official domain name for the Government of Ghana.

Minister of Communications, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful mentioned that the initiative is to protect sensitive information which when leaked, could put the country at risk.

She indicated that workers at some departments and ministries including the Ministry of Communications have already started using public emails.

According to her, sanctions would be applied against officials who use private emails to transact national duties, by the end of 2019.

The use of private emails for official duties, she said is now unacceptable.
