An ultra modern Mother and Baby Unit has been commissioned today, at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi.

The Unit was commissioned by the First Lady of Ghana, Mrs. Rebecca Akuffo-Addo in her quest to reduce maternal mortality rate.

It is also expected to reduce drastically the mortality rate of babies at the hospital by 60 percent.

The new facility will house the Maternal, Neonatal and Intensive Care units.

The new unit is said to have three surgical theatres, where three women can undergo a caesarean section at the same time.

The facility also has 30 new baby cots, 20 new incubators, and about 130 delivery beds.

As a result of this development, about 12 mothers can go through delivery at the same time.

The new facility also boasts an ultra modern feeding room.

Mothers have also been provided with recliner seats to make breastfeeding comfortable, healthy, in a clean and serene atmosphere.
